Update: new information, as well as video just released on attempted murder in Brawley on April 13th
Brawley, CA - Shocking new details have emerged regarding the targeted attack that unfolded in Brawley on April 13th, 2024. Security camera footage obtained by KYMA News 11 sheds light on the harrowing incident, revealing a man walking down the street wielding what appears to be a shotgun.
The footage captured the perpetrator firing several rounds towards the victim, who was identified as an adult female from Brawley. Tragically, she sustained a gunshot wound to the head in the brazen daylight attack. The incident, occurred at approximately 7:30 AM.
Despite the severity of her injuries, the victim miraculously survived the ordeal. Prompt action by law enforcement and medical personnel ensured she was swiftly transported to Pioneers Memorial Hospital for urgent treatment. Fortunately, she is expected to make a full recovery.
Following a preliminary investigation and the collection of evidence, 30 year old Brawley resident Michael Ortiz was identified as the alleged shooter. On May 10, 2024, at around 5:30 PM, patrol officers spotted Ortiz near 500 Main St. Ortiz attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended on the 600 block of Main St. and arrested, He has since been booked into the Imperial County Sheriff's Office Jail on charges of attempted murder and assault with a firearm. Ortiz is currently being held on $1,000,000 bail.
