Arrest of Logan Heights Gang Member in Calexico Raises Concerns

On Monday night, Agustin Ontiveros Jr., a confirmed member of the Logan Heights gang in central San Diego, was apprehended on Paulin Avenue by Calexico police. The arrest followed an earlier carjacking incident, with Ontiveros facing multiple charges.

The events unfolded at 2:30 a.m. when a reported carjacking involved two individuals, one armed with a gun. The stolen vehicle was traced to Mexico during the initial investigation. Law enforcement identified Ontiveros as a suspect, leading to his arrest at 9:14 p.m. the same day.

During the arrest, Ontiveros initiated a pursuit but was eventually apprehended. A subsequent search revealed possession of three ounces of suspected cocaine, 9.5 grams of suspected fentanyl, and a concealed dirk or dagger.

Ontiveros now faces charges including carjacking, robbery, carrying a concealed dirk or dagger, possession of narcotics for sales, failing to obey a peace officer, and resisting arrest. He is currently held in the Imperial County jail, with bail set at $60,000.

Calexico police emphasize that the investigation is ongoing, underscoring the need for continued scrutiny of the case. The incident highlights the challenges law enforcement faces in addressing criminal activities associated with gang affiliations in the community.
