Brawley City Council Announces New mayor, Ramon Castro

In a special meeting held on December 7, the Brawley City Council underwent a reorganization of officers, leading to the appointment of Ramon Castro as the new Mayor/Chairperson and Donnie Wharton as the Mayor Pro-Tempore. The decision, made unanimously by the council members present, marked a significant moment in the city's leadership transition.

Ramon Castro will now assume the role of Mayor/Chairperson for various entities, including the City Council, Successor Agency to Brawley Community Redevelopment Agency, Public Financing Authority, and Public Improvement Corporation. Simultaneously, Donnie Wharton has been appointed as Mayor Pro-Tempore, Vice Chairperson for the Successor Agency to Brawley Redevelopment Agency, Vice Chairperson for the Public Financing Authority, and Vice President for the Public Improvement Corporation.

Outgoing Mayor George Nava expressed gratitude for the support received during his tenure, acknowledging the hard work of the council members and city staff. Reflecting on Brawley's status as a full-service community with essential departments serving approximately 28,000 residents, Nava praised the collaborative efforts that have contributed to making Brawley a better place to live.

The newly appointed Mayor Pro-Tempore, Donnie Wharton, commended Mayor Nava's leadership style, emphasizing the positive impact on the entire council. Wharton acknowledged Nava's commitment to public service and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve alongside him.
