Coastal Canyon Stingrays Dominate Southwest Eagles 21 - 6 in Season Opener

El Centro, CA – The Coastal Canyon Stingrays dominated the Southwest Eagles in their season opener, cruising to a 21-6 victory behind standout performances from quarterback Cody Kirshaw (#7) and running back Moses (#28). The duo proved unstoppable as they combined for all three of the Stingrays’ touchdowns.

The game began with some promise for Southwest, as they struck first with a massive 85-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Abe Moreno (#2) to wide receiver Ibarra (#11). However, the Eagles missed the extra point, leaving them with a 6-0 lead.

Coastal Canyon initially struggled to find their rhythm, failing to convert on their first drive. However, once the Stingrays adjusted and brought in Kirshaw to lead the offense, things changed quickly. Kirshaw’s ability to run the ball and control the pace of the game, combined with Moses’ powerful rushing, led to the Stingrays’ first touchdown by Moses, tying the game 6-6 by the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw both teams bogged down by penalties and strong defensive efforts. Southwest’s offense stalled, despite a 35-yard pass from Moreno to Oleaun “Goose” Underwood (#32). Coastal Canyon’s response came in the form of a 20-yard pass from Kirshaw to Moses, but neither team was able to add points, heading into halftime still tied at 6-6.

In the second half, the Stingrays began to pull away. Their defense forced a fumble, and Moses capitalized with his second touchdown of the game, pushing Coastal Canyon ahead. After a successful two-point conversion, the score was 14-6.

Kirshaw and Moses continued their dominance in the fourth quarter, with Kirshaw capping off the game with a rushing touchdown of his own with just over a minute remaining. Coastal Canyon’s defense kept the Eagles at bay, preventing any additional points.

Final Score: Coastal Canyon Stingrays 21, Southwest Eagles 6.

The Stingrays’ dynamic duo of quarterback Cody Kirshaw and running back Moses controlled the game from start to finish, leading Coastal Canyon to a commanding victory over Southwest. Their powerful running game and timely defense sealed the Eagles’ fate, as Southwest struggled to regain momentum after their opening touchdown.
