Brawley Wildcats Win Season Opener Against Palm Desert Aztecs, Marking Start of 2024-2025 Season

Brawley, CA – The Brawley Union High School Wildcats kicked off their football season in spectacular fashion with a 32-20 victory over the Palm Desert Aztecs yesterday evening.

The game started with high energy as Sergio “Bubba” Garcia, a recent transfer to the Wildcats, made an immediate impact. Within the first 20 seconds, Garcia scored a touchdown, a feat made possible by a key block from #21 Roman Britain. Garcia's stellar performance continued as he scored three touchdowns, earning him the title of Offensive Player of the Game.

Diego Padilla contributed with a successful 43-yard field goal, adding to the Wildcats' lead. Matthew Moreno also found the end zone, showcasing the offensive strength of Brawley.

Defensively, the Wildcats capitalized on a fumble by the Aztecs and turned it into a pick-six, further cementing their dominance. Despite a touchdown from Palm Desert’s #21 Wilson, the Aztecs struggled to keep up.

In the second quarter, Padilla's field goal extended the Wildcats' lead. Athletic Director Billy Brewer noted, “The team made some early mistakes, but overall the effort was there. We need to improve our running game, but our passing game was strong and can carry us through.”

The third quarter saw Brandon Boras add another touchdown for Brawley, increasing the score to 30-7.

The final quarter included a touchdown for Palm Desert by #31 and another score from Wilson, but it was Garcia who sealed the game with a pick-six, securing the win for the Wildcats with a final score of 32-20.

The Valley Sports Network (VSN) recognized Sergio “Bubba” Garcia as the Offensive Player of the Game for his three touchdowns and Andrew Tigert (#56) as the Defensive Player of the Game.

The Wildcats' impressive season opener sets a high bar for their future games as they continue their quest for a successful season.
