Brawley Wildcats takes the win 30-7 Over St. Augustine, Extending there 3-0 Undefeated Streak.

The Brawley Wildcats football team continued their perfect season with a commanding 30-7 victory over San Diego’s St. Augustine, one of the region’s top programs. This win pushes Brawley’s record to 3-0 and sends a clear message about the team’s potential this season.

A Balanced Offensive Attack

Quarterback #8 Matthew Gutierrez and Running Back #23 Matthew Moreno led the Wildcats' offense, with both making key contributions that kept St. Augustine’s defense guessing. Each player had highlight-worthy runs, including touchdowns of over 30 yards that sealed the Wildcats' dominance in the second half. Gutierrez showed poise and control in the pocket, allowing the Wildcats to move the ball effectively through the air, while Moreno’s explosive ground game carved through the St. Augustine defense.

"This shows that if we work, we can hang with anybody," said Gutierrez. "We worked for this, and we knew this moment was gonna come, so we were just ready."

Stifling Defense

While the offense did its part, Brawley’s defense was equally impressive, limiting St. Augustine to just one touchdown and keeping them scoreless for most of the game. The defensive unit applied constant pressure and held strong in critical moments, forcing turnovers and shutting down key plays that could have shifted momentum.

Coach Landy’s Perspective

Brawley’s head coach, Landy, praised his team for stepping up against a high-caliber opponent like St. Augustine. "I think it's a huge statement by the program," Landy said. "St. Augustine is one of the better programs in San Diego year in and year out. They're a very solid football team, and it's about time we stepped up and played to our potential."

Although satisfied with the win, Coach Landy acknowledged there is still room for improvement. "There’s a lot of things we still got to correct, both as a team and as coaches. Things we need to fix, but we’re getting better week by week."

A Historic Rivalry

Brawley’s Athletic Director, Billy Brewer, also shared his excitement about the victory, noting the historical significance of the rivalry. "I think it's huge for Brawley to beat St. Augustine tonight. We were one-on-one over the years and played them in the playoffs. They beat us last time in '07, and we beat them in a great game here in '05. It’s great for our program, and our kids are excited to play a quality team like that. We appreciate them coming down, but it’s a great win tonight."

Building Community Spirit

The night wasn’t just about the varsity squad, as Brawley's American Youth Football (AYF) program also made an appearance. Under the leadership of President Eloy Martinez, the youth football and cheer teams were on hand, adding a touch of community pride and spirit to the event.

Next Up: Gila Ridge

The Wildcats now turn their attention to their next challenge, an away game against Gila Ridge High School on September 20 at 7:00 PM. With a perfect 3-0 record, Brawley looks to keep their momentum rolling as they head into the heart of the season.
