Song of the year: kendrick Lamar wins 5 Grammys for his song “Not Like Us”

At the 67th Annual Grammy Awards on February 2, 2025, Kendrick Lamar achieved a remarkable feat by winning five awards for his song “Not Like Us.” This track, known for its pointed lyrics directed at fellow rapper Drake, earned Kendrick the following honors:

  • Song of the Year

  • Record of the Year

  • Best Music Video

  • Best Rap Performance

  • Best Rap Song

“Not Like Us” is a diss track released on May 4, 2024, amidst Kendricks highly publicized feud with Canadian rapper Drake. In the song, Kendrick accuses Drake of inappropriate behavior, including pedophilia, and questions the integrity of his inner circle. The track features a satirical cover art depicting a satellite image of Drakes mansion labeled with pins representing sexual predators.

The songs lyrics include lines such as:

“Say, Drake, I hear you like em young / You better not ever go to cell block one.”

“Baka got a weird case, why is he around?”

In 2014, drake’s alleged friend “Baka” was arrested and charged with forcing a 22-year-old woman into prostitution and taking her money. In 2015, he pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman and an unrelated weapons charge.

These verses highlight Kendricks direct confrontation with Drake, accusing him of serious allegations and questioning the company he keeps.

The 2025 Grammy Awards were notable for their diversity and inclusivity, with artists like Beyonce and Kendrick leading the night. Beyonces album “Cowboy Carter” won Album of the Year, making her the fourth Black woman to receive this honor.

Kendrick’s success at the Grammys highlights his continued influence and the recognition of hip-hop within the broader music community.
