yuma County agricultural bus overturns with 34 passengers on board

On the morning of November 6, 2023, at approximately 6:39 AM, the Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) received a report concerning a single commercial vehicle collision at the intersection of S. Avenue 37E and E. County 4th Street. The incident involved an agriculture labor bus, carrying 34 passengers, which had been traveling on a field road.

Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that, for reasons yet unknown, the bus driver lost control of the vehicle, resulting in it sliding into an embankment and ultimately overturning, coming to a rest on its side.

In response to this unfortunate event, multiple agencies promptly coordinated their efforts to manage the situation, providing assistance to the injured passengers and facilitating their transportation to hospitals in the Yuma area. Of the 34 individuals on board, approximately 28 sustained injuries, which have been categorized as non-life-threatening.

The incident remains under investigation, with authorities ruling out alcohol as a contributing factor to the collision. While the specific cause of the accident remains uncertain, this case is currently the subject of a thorough inquiry to establish the facts.

As the investigation continues, the community's focus remains on the well-being of the affected individuals and their families, and further updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.
