Woman Arrested After Violent Hammer Attack on Sleeping Man in Calexico

Calexico, CA – In a shocking incident on Friday, May 31, a woman was taken into custody after she allegedly attacked a man with a hammer while he slept in a parking lot. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Citally Gonzalez, approached the man randomly and struck him in the head, leaving him with significant head trauma.

The victim, a fieldworker, was found bleeding from the back of his head by responding officers. Calexico Police Officer Alexander Hernandez, who arrived at the scene, stated, “A man and a female were in a verbal argument, and I noticed the male was bleeding from the back of his head. We detained the female.”

Surveillance footage revealed that Gonzalez had been observing the man as he slept in the parking lot before she made a downward striking motion, indicative of an attack. The victim, seen in the video, struggled to his feet and walked away from the scene despite his injury.

Initially, police were unable to locate the weapon used in the attack. However, a thorough search eventually led to the discovery of the hammer, confirming the brutal nature of the assault.

Officer Hernandez remarked, “In the video, it appears that she arrived at the scene and watched the male sleeping, at which point in the video you can see that she does this downward motion like she is striking something. He then is seen getting up and walking away.”

Police have confirmed that there is no known relationship between Gonzalez and the victim, suggesting that the attack was unprovoked and random.

Gonzalez has been booked into Imperial County Jail on charges of attempted murder. Meanwhile, the victim received medical treatment for his head injury and is expected to make a full recovery.

This disturbing act has raised concerns about safety in public spaces, prompting the local community to call for increased security measures. The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to understand the motive behind this seemingly senseless act of violence.
