A disturbing video circulating on social media has sparked a police investigation into an alleged bullying incident involving students at Enrique Camarena Jr. High School in Calexico. The footage, which surfaced online, shows two individuals purportedly assaulting another student, prompting swift action from both the school district and law enforcement authorities.

In a statement released on March 26, 2024, the Calexico Unified School District (CUSD) addressed the incident, acknowledging the receipt of a report from the school regarding the video. According to the statement, the Principal of Enrique Camarena Jr. High School, Diego Romero, promptly contacted the Calexico Police Department (CPD) upon learning of the video's existence. Subsequently, a criminal investigation was initiated by CPD, while the school district commenced its own internal inquiry into the matter.

Due to legal constraints concerning minors and ongoing investigations, specific details regarding the incident and any ensuing actions against the involved students cannot be disclosed at this time. However, CUSD emphasized its commitment to ensuring the safety of students and collaborating closely with law enforcement to address the situation effectively.

The video was originally posted by an Instagram user, who, with a big red title on the video, stated, “Let's make it viral. They took it down from here and TikTok. I want all of these 'kids' out of Calexico school district. Let's all make calls to Kiki Camarena Jr. High School and the school.” This action garnered significant attention from the Calexico Unified School District and affiliated Instagram accounts, prompting heightened awareness and public scrutiny.

In a statement made on social media by Mayor Pro Tem Gilbrto Manzanarez he stated “The Calexico Police Department is already investigating the event as a criminal investigation and for obvious reasons, I can't share any other information aside from that fact. It is my understanding that CUSD is also conducting their own student disciplinary investigation.”
