Man, accused of killing mother, and two kids in North Carolina arrested in imperial county
Imperial County law enforcement agencies, in collaboration with the FBI and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, have successfully apprehended Benjamin Joseph Taylor, 35, in connection to a harrowing triple homicide case that has gripped the nation.
Taylor was arrested on Saturday evening, March 16, in the vicinity of campsites spanning between Salvation Mountain and Slab City, after an intensive enforcement operation.
Sheriff’s Lieutenant Clinton Erro commended the seamless coordination between local and federal authorities, highlighting the pivotal role played by the Border Crimes Suppression Team and the FBI in bringing Taylor to justice. The Imperial County Sheriff’s Office worked tirelessly alongside the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, responding swiftly to the call for assistance, ensuring the safety of the community.
The apprehension of Taylor follows a series of tragic events that unfolded in North Carolina. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department initiated an investigation after human remains were discovered at an apartment complex on Orchard Trace Lane. Subsequently, the victims were identified as 22-year-old Markayla Johnson, alongside her two young children, 4-year-old Miracle Johnson and 7-month-old Messiah Johnson.
Chief Johnny Jennings of the CMPD expressed profound sorrow over the loss, emphasizing the devastating impact of violence, particularly when innocent children are involved. The arrest of Taylor, a person of interest in the case, marks a crucial step towards seeking justice for the victims and their grieving loved ones.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to the Johnson family during this difficult time. We stand united in the pursuit of justice and remain committed to supporting efforts to combat violence in our communities.
