Rogelio Adrian Vasquez found guilty by a jury on three counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon

Imperial County, February 16, 2023 - Rogelio Adrian Vasquez has been found guilty by a jury on three counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon after intentionally ramming his lifted Jeep into an occupied Hyundai Elantra, carrying three teenagers. The incident occurred on April 15, 2023, when Vasquez chased the victims from El Sol Parking Lot in El Centro to a cul-de-sac on Snapdragon Way in Imperial.

In a shocking and unprovoked attack, Vasquez cornered the teenagers in the residential cul-de-sac, deliberately accelerating his Jeep into the driver’s side of the Hyundai Elantra. Fortunately, the occupants emerged unharmed, though the vehicle sustained moderate damage.

The guilty verdicts were returned on all counts, with a sentencing hearing scheduled for March 28, 2024. Deputy District Attorney Eric Alizade led the prosecution, supported by the Imperial Police Department, the Imperial County District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigation, and the Imperial County District Attorney’s Victim Witness Program. Victim Advocate David Briseno played a crucial role in providing assistance to the victims throughout the case.

Imperial County District Attorney George Marquez emphasized the severity of the crime, stating, “Make no mistake about it, this was a violent crime, and that is unacceptable in our community. The criminal justice community will continue our best efforts to keep our communities safe and fight for justice and the rights of all victims of crimes.”
