IID and citizens, energy Corp. Provide 100k in financial assistance to those affected by the 2023 flood in Niland

In a compassionate response to the challenges faced by the residents of Niland, California, the Imperial Irrigation District (IID) and Citizens Energy Corporation have jointly pledged $100,000 in financial assistance to aid in the recovery efforts following the devastating floods of 2023. The announcement comes in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Hilary, with the subsequent major storm exacerbating the hardships faced by the community.

Gina Dockstader, IID Board of Director for Division 3, emphasized the unprecedented challenges encountered by the residents of Niland. She stated, "Through this financial assistance provided by our friends at Citizens Energy, which is greatly appreciated, we jointly stand with the community, offering a helping hand to ensure that together, we can overcome the impacts of these severe weather events."

Citizens Energy President Joe Kennedy III echoed this sentiment, expressing solidarity with the people of Niland during their time of need. He highlighted the ongoing partnership with IID and their commitment to utilizing financial resources generated by transmission projects to serve the citizens of Imperial County.

The initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on Niland residents, providing assistance for recovery and replacement costs incurred due to the flooding. The IV Wellness Foundation will coordinate the funds, with availability expected after March 1, 2024. The assistance will specifically target residents who suffered damage to their homes and properties as a result of the floods.

IID stressed that the financial support ensures that the residents of Niland will have the necessary resources to rebuild and recover from the storm's aftermath. For those seeking assistance, detailed information on eligibility criteria and the application process is available through IID's Public Programs Unit at 1-760-482-3306 or via email at publicprograms@iid.com.

As Niland endeavors to rebuild, the collaboration between IID and Citizens Energy stands as a testament to the resilience and solidarity within communities facing the challenges brought about by extreme weather events.
