Power restored after transformer fire causes major power outage at Geo’s Mobile Home Estate in El Centro
El Centro, CA — A transformer fire at Gio’s Mobile Home Estates late Saturday night, August 10, led to a widespread power outage that affected all 271 homes in the community, according to a press release from the city of El Centro.
The incident began with an initial outage that impacted 16 homes. However, the situation worsened when a privately contracted troubleshooter attempted to repair the transformer. The attempt inadvertently caused a complete power loss across the entire mobile home park, the release stated.
In response to the emergency, Imperial Irrigation District technicians, along with representatives from the mobile home park, swiftly arrived at the scene. A thorough assessment was conducted, which revealed that extensive repairs would be necessary to fully restore power to the affected homes.
Recognizing the severity of the situation, the owner of Gio’s Mobile Home Estates took immediate action to secure accommodations for the displaced residents. By Saturday night, around 170 hotel rooms had been arranged, with efforts ongoing to secure additional lodging for those still without power.
The power outage is expected to last a few days as repairs are underway. In a recent update, the city announced that power had been restored to all but 16 mobile homes. Residents of the affected homes have been urged to contact park management for further assistance.
“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Imperial Irrigation District, the County of Imperial, Galindo Electric, Gio’s mobile home park management and ownership, and to our City of El Centro team for their dedicated efforts in supporting our residents,” read a statement from the city. “We are actively advocating in collaboration with these organizations to restore power to the remaining homes as swiftly as possible.”
The City of El Centro and the management of Gio’s Mobile Home Estates continue to work closely to ensure that all residents are safely accommodated and that power is fully restored as soon as possible. Residents are encouraged to stay in contact with park management for the latest updates.
