One female arrested after High-Speed Chase Through Brawley and El Centro.

On November 26, 2024, a high-speed chase unfolded across Brawley and El Centro, drawing significant attention. According to videos and reports shared with 760 News, the chase began around 4:30 PM, though the starting location remains unconfirmed.

The pursuit escalated when the driver continued past California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers, leading them through Brawley and onto State Route 78. The chase then moved onto State Route 111 near Worthington Road and Dogwood. However, CHP discontinued the pursuit due to heavy traffic as the driver entered El Centro near Ross Road and 4th Street. The chase ended around 5:30 PM when the vehicle crashed into railroad tracks near 331 W Main St in El Centro.

New details have since emerged. The chase began at approximately 4:28 PM when a CHP officer attempted to stop a speeding gray Kia on Mead Road, west of Highway 111. The driver, identified as 27-year-old Lauren Carpio of Brawley, ignored the stop, leading to the high-speed pursuit. Speeds exceeded 95 mph, and the driver ran multiple stop signs and traffic lights before crashing on State Street.

Carpio suffered minor injuries and was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center for treatment. Authorities confirmed she was wearing a seatbelt, and DUI is not suspected.

The reason for the chase remains unknown, and the investigation is ongoing. Witnesses previously noted that the driver stopped at some traffic signals and used turn signals during portions of the pursuit.
