Lights, Laughter, and Community Pride Shine Bright at Imperial’s Annual Parade
IMPERIAL, Calif. — The City of Imperial lit up the night on December 13, 2024, with its annual Parade of Lights, filling the streets with holiday magic and community spirit. The mile-long parade drew crowds from across the Imperial Valley, all eager to see the glowing floats, creative decorations, and lively holiday characters.
The parade featured everything from cars and jeeps wrapped in twinkling lights to Grinch-themed semi-trucks with giant googly eyes, sparking smiles and laughter from kids and adults alike. The atmosphere was electric, with the glow of lights reflecting off the night sky, adding an extra layer of magic to the event. Families and friends gathered along the route, many bundled in blankets and sipping hot cocoa as they watched the floats roll by.
Leading this year’s parade as the distinguished grand marshal was Geoff Dale, a lifelong resident of Imperial and a well-respected community leader. His selection was announced by Mayor Robert Amparano in a press release ahead of the event.
“As a lifelong resident of Imperial, Dale is a highly respected figure in the community. He is known for his outstanding contributions, unwavering commitment, and passion for the community. … Dale is always ready and willing to listen to anyone who needs assistance,” the city stated in the release.
Dale’s history of public service runs deep. He was appointed to the Imperial City Council in early 2001, and his passion for parks and recreation inspired him to run for office in the following election. He went on to serve on the council for 21 years, building strong relationships with state Assembly members and Congressional representatives during his tenure.
This year’s People’s Choice Award went to St. Mary’s Catholic School of El Centro for their stunning nativity scene-themed float. The display featured illuminated figures and thoughtful details that told the classic Christmas story, earning cheers and admiration from the crowd. St. Mary’s, a proud sponsor of 760 News Media, welcomes families to learn more about their school and enrollment opportunities at www.saintmary.org.
The Parade of Lights is one of the Imperial Valley’s most cherished holiday traditions, bringing the community together for a night of celebration and wonder. As the final float passed and the lights dimmed, many attendees were already talking about next year’s event, eager to see how the community will outdo itself in 2025.
