Jersey Mike’s in El Centro holds grand opening and ribbon-cutting, partnering up with WomenHaven

EL CENTRO – After more than a year of anticipation, the much-awaited Jersey Mike’s Subs has finally opened its doors at 1002 N. Imperial Avenue, the former Carrows location in El Centro. with around 100 eager attendees lining up to be among the first to enjoy the new eatery.

“I was a customer of Jersey Mike’s for over 10 years and I knew Imperial County didn’t have it, so I brought it to El Centro. As a customer, my favorite sandwich was the number 8 Mike’s Way, no tomato,” said Michael Mattia, the franchisee of Jersey Mike’s in El Centro, in an interview. “I’m very excited. I think it’s very good for the community. It’s a great product.” he stated

The event began at 9 a.m., with welcome and introductions, and included the distribution of free sub cards to attendees. While the initial opening date was set for early January 2024, the franchise faced undisclosed delays. Despite this, Mattia has made a strong commitment to the community by partnering with local nonprofit WomanHaven, Inc.

“Michael Mattia will hold a grand opening and fundraiser from Wednesday, July 31 to Sunday, August 4 to support WomanHaven,” a Jersey Mike’s press release stated. Customers who receive a special fundraising coupon can make a minimum $3 contribution to WomanHaven in exchange for a regular sub.

“As soon as I decided to open a Jersey Mike’s, I knew it was the perfect brand to introduce to Imperial County,” Mattia said. “I’m convinced that bringing such a great organization to our community will make a positive difference here. We do this not only by serving great food and providing outstanding customer service, but also by giving back.”

WomanHaven is a local nonprofit that focuses on fighting domestic violence, stalking, and human trafficking. The organization expressed its gratitude for the partnership with Jersey Mike’s.

“WomanHaven is thrilled to announce the grand opening of Jersey Mike’s, in which WomanHaven is partnering with Jersey Mike’s for a special fundraiser to support our mission,” said Christian Gamble, WomanHaven Outreach Director, in a statement to IVP. “For every $3 donation made, customers will receive a free regular sub, valid from July 31st to August 4th, 2024.”

“All of the proceeds will go into our programs, where we provide services and resources for victims of domestic violence in the community,” a press release from WomanHaven, Inc. stated. “We deeply appreciate the community’s ongoing support. Every donation helps us stand together in the fight to end domestic violence,” Gamble added.

“All of this wouldn’t be possible without an amazing leader like Peter Cancro, founder and CEO of our company,” Mattia acknowledged in a release. “From him, I’ve learned that, ‘We first need to give, before we get.’”

Jersey Mike’s Subs in El Centro is set to become a beloved spot for locals, not only for its delicious offerings but also for its commitment to supporting the community. The grand opening marks the beginning of what promises to be a valuable addition to Imperial Valley.
