Calipatria Inmate Sentenced to 12 More Years for Sex Offense after Assaulting Officers
IMPERIAL COUNTY, CA — Calipatria State Prison inmate Ivan Quintana received the maximum sentence after being convictedof several felonies, including sexually battering a prison staff member and attacking correctional officers.
Quintana was sentenced Tuesday by the Honorable Christopher J. Plourd to 12 years in state prison, consecutive to his current sentence. He will also have to register as a sex offender. The decisionfollowed an argument for the maximum sentence by Senior Deputy District Attorney John Harter.
Quintana, who was already incarceratedfor prior felony convictions, committed the crime in March 2023. He was to be released this year but will now start serving his new sentence right away.
Quintana was found guilty by a jury on December 17, 2024, after a shortdeliberation, of five felonies and one misdemeanor. The jury also found five aggravating circumstances in the case, onebeing that Quintana constituted a greatdanger to society.
His criminal history contains severalfelonies, including robbery and residential burglary.
The victim of the sexual assault in this matter was assisted throughout the criminal case by the Imperial County District Attorney's Office Victim Witness Assistance Program.
