Calexico's "Kids and Badges" Celebrates 20 Years of Giving Joy
Calexico CA - In a heartwarming celebration of community spirit and holiday cheer, the Calexico Police Department proudly announces the triumphant conclusion of its 20th annual "Kids and Badges" event. A cherished tradition spanning two decades, this festive occasion has become a beacon of happiness for Calexico families during the holiday season.
Distinguished guests, including Imperial County District Attorney George Marquez, Calexico City Mayor Raul Urena, Mayor Pro Tem Gloria Romo, and Councilman Javier Moreno, gathered to partake in the festivities. Calexico City Manager Esperanza Colio also joined the event, emphasizing the city's commitment to fostering a strong bond between law enforcement and the community.
For two decades, the "Kids and Badges" event has provided a unique experience for over 30 children each year. Paired with dedicated law enforcement officers or firefighters, the children enjoyed a delightful breakfast, met Santa Claus, and embarked on a special shopping spree for Christmas gifts at a local store.
In celebration of its 20th anniversary, the Calexico Police Department announced a significant achievement—thanks to generous donations, 50 children were treated to a memorable trip to Walmart, each receiving a $150 gift card. This remarkable support not only expanded the event's impact but also added an extra layer of joy to the holiday season for the children of Calexico.
The event's highlights included a hearty breakfast at Denny's, a VIP escort through a designated route, Santa's grand arrival in a REACH helicopter, captivating photo opportunities with Santa, and the unique experience of shopping alongside first responders for Christmas gifts.
