Calexico Police Department Enhances Community Safety with Active Shooter Training

The Calexico Police Department (CPD) recently conducted an extensive active shooter training session at Calexico High School, marking a critical step in enhancing the preparedness of local law enforcement and school personnel. The training, which involved participation from U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) agents and members of the Calexico Unified School District, focused on a variety of essential skills and strategies designed to protect the community in the event of an active shooter situation.

The comprehensive training covered several key areas, including preparation and response to active shooter scenarios, tactical deployment and movement, understanding the stages of active threats, and fostering the right officer mindset. Additionally, the session emphasized the importance of providing medical treatment to victims, ensuring that all participants are equipped to handle the aftermath of such incidents.

Regular training sessions like this are crucial for first responders, as they help to ensure that they can deliver the highest level of service to the community. In an era where the threat of active shooter situations is a harsh reality, being prepared for the worst-case scenario is not just important—it’s essential.

CPD’s commitment to ongoing training and education underscores its dedication to protecting and serving the community of Calexico. The department continually strives to improve its skills and knowledge to respond effectively to any threat that may arise.

The Calexico Police Officers Association (CPOA) extends its sincere gratitude to Randy Nunez from Citywide Protection Services for generously donating his time and expertise to assist CPD in developing this critical training. Nunez’s contribution played a significant role in ensuring that the training was thorough and effective.

As the community continues to evolve, CPD remains steadfast in its mission to provide safety and security to the residents of Calexico, demonstrating that preparedness is key to maintaining public safety.
