Arrest Made in Hit-and-Run Collision: Calexico Police Department

Calexico, CA, April 19, 2024 - The Calexico Police Department announced Friday the arrest of David Reyes Della, a resident of Mexicali, Baja California, in connection with a hit-and-run collision that left a 67-year-old man injured.

The incident took place on Thursday, April 11, at approximately 11:20 AM, on Imperial Ave in Calexico, California. Magdaleno Ruiz, the victim, was crossing the street when he was struck by a red 2016 Mazda sedan bearing California license plate 7NZX429. The impact caused Mr. Ruiz to sustain injuries to his left arm, and he was subsequently transported to ECRMC for medical treatment.

Following the collision, the driver of the vehicle, David Reyes Della, fled the scene and crossed into Mexico. However, diligent work by the investigating officers led to the identification of both the vehicle and the suspect. A hold was placed at the port of entry, and David Reyes Della was arrested as he attempted to re-enter the United States at approximately 2:00 AM on the day of his arrest.

David Reyes Della has since confessed to his involvement in the hit-and-run incident and has been booked at the County Jail for felony hit and run.
