20-Year-Old Arrested for Street Racing and Felony Evading in Calexico

CALEXICO, CA -A 20-year-old male driver was arrested after being caught street racing at over 80 mph with no headlights while running stop signs on the 300 block of West Cole Blvd., according to the Calexico Police Officers Association.

The incident happened on February 4, 2025, at 12:25 a.m. when officers attempted to pull over the driver, later identified as Jesus Gongora-Rosas. He refused to stop, leading to a brief pursuit before finally pulling over. Officers took him into custody without further incident.

Gongora-Rosas was booked into the Imperial County Jail on charges of felony evading, along with other traffic violations. His vehicle was also towed.

This arrest came just one day before a suspected street racing accident on February 5 that tragically claimed the lives of two people in El Centro, underscoring the dangers of illegal racing. Authorities warn that reckless driving, excessive speed, and operating a vehicle without headlights put lives at risk, endangering not just the driver but also other motorists and pedestrians.

The Calexico Police Officers Association urges all drivers to obey traffic laws, wear seatbelts, and drive responsibly to keep the community safe.
