Peter Seidler The owner of the padres dies at age 63

San Diego, CA - Peter Seidler, chairman, and owner of the San Diego Padres, passed away on November 14, 2023, at the age of 63. His demise, following an unspecified medical procedure in September, marked the end of his presence at the remaining 2023 season games.

Seidler, a resilient two-time cancer survivor with type 1 diabetes, played a crucial role in the Padres’ ownership group since its acquisition in 2012. In November 2020, he acquired Ron Fowler’s majority stake, significantly boosting the team’s payroll to the third-highest in MLB for the 2023 season at $237 million.

Under Seidler’s leadership, the Padres made notable player acquisitions, reaching the 2022 National League Championship Series, albeit being eliminated by the Atlanta Braves. Beyond baseball, his philanthropic endeavors left a lasting impact, with significant contributions to education, healthcare, arts, culture, and environmental causes. He also supported charities aiding children facing illnesses.

Survived by his wife Sheel and three children, the Seidler family has yet to announce plans for funeral or memorial services. The Padres expressed their condolences and appreciation, commemorating Seidler with a tribute video on their website and social media platforms.

The cause of Seidler’s passing remains undisclosed. The team has opened the Home Plate Gate at Petco Park for those who wish to pay their respects to a figure whose influence extended far beyond the baseball field.
