Tesla Issues Safety Recall for Cybertruck; Accelerator Pedal Issue

Tesla, Inc. has announced a safety recall affecting thousands of its highly anticipated Cybertruck vehicles due to a critical accelerator pedal issue. The recall, identified as Safety Recall Report 24V-276, was initiated after Tesla received reports of the accelerator pedal becoming dislodged when subjected to high force.

The affected vehicles, encompassing all Model Year 2024 Cybertruck vehicles manufactured between November 13, 2023, and April 4, 2024, totaling approximately 3,878 units, may experience a malfunction where the accelerator pedal gets trapped in the interior trim above it. This defect could potentially compromise the performance and operation of the pedal, increasing the risk of a collision.

According to Tesla’s investigation, the issue stems from an unapproved change in the assembly process, where a lubricant was introduced to aid in component assembly. This lubricant, which was not part of the approved specifications, led to reduced retention of the accelerator pedal pad, contributing to its dislodgement.

Fortunately, Tesla has not received reports of any collisions, injuries, or fatalities related to this defect as of April 15, 2024. However, in the interest of customer safety, Tesla has taken proactive measures to address the issue.

As part of the remedy program, Tesla will replace or rework the accelerator pedal assembly free of charge for affected customers, ensuring that the assembly meets specifications and provides sufficient retention force to prevent the pad from dislodging.

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified via mail starting from June 18, 2024, with Tesla stores and service centers being notified on April 19, 2024. Additionally, Cybertruck vehicles in production have already been equipped with the new accelerator pedal component to prevent the issue from occurring in future vehicles.

Tesla urges affected customers to contact their nearest service center to schedule the necessary repairs as soon as they receive notification. The company remains committed to prioritizing customer safety and maintaining the highest quality standards for its vehicles.

For more information and to check if your vehicle is affected by the recall, owners can visit Tesla’s official website or contact Tesla customer support.
