Pedestrian and Dog Seriously Injured in Calexico DUI Crash as Driver Runs Stop Sign

A 38-year-old driver was arrested for DUI on Nov. 11 after speeding through a stop sign and causing a serious collision between 200 Seventh Street and 700 Rockwood Avenue in Calexico. The crash, which occurred around 5:15 p.m., also left a pedestrian walking his dog with serious injuries.

Photos shared by the Calexico Police Department showed damage to a street sign believed to have been struck during the crash. The driver admitted to consuming alcohol and was detained at the scene. After failing field sobriety tests and registering a blood alcohol content above the legal limit, the suspect was arrested.

In a statement, the Calexico Police Department emphasized the importance of driving responsibly, especially during the holidays:

“Speeding and driving under the influence not only endanger drivers but also pedestrians, families, and others traveling during this busy season.”

Authorities urge residents to plan ahead, designate a sober driver, or use rideshare services to help keep roadways safe for everyone.
