Imperial County Farm Bureau Recognized as this year's class "B" County of the Year Award winner

The Imperial County Farm Bureau has received recognition for its commendable efforts across various domains. The farm bureau's initiatives encompass water public relations, relationship building, membership, marketing, and activities for young farmers and ranchers.

One noteworthy accomplishment includes a collaborative effort with allied groups, resulting in a $12,000 donation toward a Colorado River Public Relations campaign. This initiative aimed to showcase the critical needs of the Colorado River and its significant impact on the county's farming industry.

Board members played key roles in an agriculture and water film titled "The Green Desert," directed by Leo Zahn premiering in local theaters. This film addresses the public's lack of knowledge regarding agriculture's water requirements. To bridge this gap, the Farm Bureau undertook a robust public relations campaign, fostering closer relationships with elected leaders and the community.

Engaging with local authorities, the board members met with Imperial Valley Irrigation District directors and collaborated with the Board of Supervisors on various issues. Their involvement extended to hosting a strategic planning workshop for agricultural stakeholders and coordinating efforts to combat arson fires through the "Burn a Bail, Go to Jail" campaign.

Recognizing the importance of membership, the Imperial County Farm Bureau established a multi-layered program. This initiative includes board member participation, prize incentives for timely renewals, encouraging absentee landowners to join, and promoting the benefits of the irrigated lands coalition. An active Young Farmers and Ranchers (YFNR) committee further contributed to the county's successes.

In acknowledgment of its efforts, the Imperial County Farm Bureau has been honored as the Mid-Sized County Farm Bureau of the Year. Congratulations to Imperial County for this recognition!

This recognition is part of the annual County of the Year Awards, sponsored by Farm Credit, which honors county Farm Bureaus for excellence in categories like membership, policy implementation, leadership, agricultural education, public relations, and young farmers and ranchers.
