High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Arrest of Auto Theft Suspect

On April 3rd 2024 a high-speed pursuit involving a stolen vehicle came to a dramatic conclusion as law enforcement officers apprehended the suspect after a tense chase through multiple cities.

The ordeal began on the streets of Kloke Avenue, where officers attempted to pull over a stolen vehicle, only to be met with defiance from the driver. Identified as Darius Lackey, a 38-year-old Riverside County resident, the suspect accelerated, initiating a high-speed chase that traversed onto Highway 98 and Interstate 8, surpassing Ocotillo.

Faced with escalating safety concerns as the pursuit escalated into reckless maneuvers, officers made the difficult decision to terminate the chase when Lackey veered into oncoming traffic lanes. However, the pursuit was far from over.

Hours later, the stolen vehicle resurfaced in Calexico, reigniting the pursuit. This time, Lackey abandoned the vehicle, attempting to flee on foot. Despite the challenging terrain and dense brush near the Central Main Canal, law enforcement officers successfully located and apprehended the suspect, effectively ending the cat-and-mouse game.

Lackey now faces a litany of charges, including auto theft, felony evading, and assault. He was promptly turned over to the El Centro Police Department for processing, while the stolen vehicle was returned to its rightful owner.
