Cesar Chavez and Malan Street Intersection near Padilla pace middle school Finally Opens After Months of Delays
BRAWLEY, CA - After months of delays, the intersection at Cesar Chavez Street and Malan Street has officially opened, providing a long-awaited direct route to Padilla Pace Middle School. The road, which was expected to be completed last year, faced setbacks but is now accessible to drivers and pedestrians.
The new street is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and reduce travel time for parents, students, and school staff. Before the opening, families had to navigate a dirt road from the back of the school, making the commute longer and more challenging.
Despite the delays, city officials are pleased that the road is now open to the public.
“With the opening of the intersection at Malan and Cesar Chavez in front of Padilla-Pace Middle School, we’re not only easing traffic but, more importantly, enhancing the safety of our children. As a parent whose daughter attends Padilla-Pace, I understand firsthand the impact of this improvement. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the dedicated teams from both the city and the school district for their collaborative efforts in getting this done.” said Brawley Mayor Gil Rebollar.
On Wednesday morning, as students crossed the newly opened intersection on their way to school, heavy police activity and crossing guards were present to ensure safety. The road officially opened around 6 a.m.
Padilla Pace Middle School board member Esther Sanchez acknowledged the city’s efforts in a social media post, writing, “Kudos to the City of Brawley for their efforts in completing Malan Road & Cesar Chavez Street a milestone achieved after a long wait.”
The new access point is expected to ease congestion and provide a safer, more convenient route for the community.
