Calexico Police Apprehend Armed Robbery Suspect and Capture Fugitive in Recent Operations

CALEXICO, November 21, 2023 - The Calexico Police Department has achieved a notable milestone in its ongoing efforts to maintain public safety. Patrol officers successfully apprehended Anthony Angel Flores, a known local gang member with a history of firearm possession, linked to a September 25, 2022, armed robbery at a Calexico jewelry store.

A warrant for Flores’s involvement in the Don Roberto store heist was issued based on evidence gathered in collaboration with the FBI, ATF, and the Calexico Police Department. Flores was taken into custody by patrol officers at 0600 hours on November 21, 2023, and handed over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for federal prosecution.

Simultaneously, on the same evening, officers engaged in a vehicle pursuit resulting in the detention of Yasmin Campos. The pursuit began on Imperial Ave from Cole Blvd at 2330 hours, initiated by an enforcement stop that Campos failed to yield to. The chase concluded with Campos’s vehicle overturning just north of Heber Road, leading to her transport to ECRMC due to complaints of pain.

Further investigations revealed that Campos is wanted by the US Marshals, with charges appropriately filed. A subsequent vehicle search uncovered various items indicative of a mobile identity theft operation allegedly orchestrated by Campos.

Interim Chief Orozco of the Calexico Police Department highlighted the significance of these developments in ensuring justice for the citizens of Calexico. These apprehensions demonstrate the department’s commitment to enforcing the law and safeguarding the community from criminal elements through collaborative efforts with federal agencies.
