Brawley Police Arrest alleged shooter in April 13 Shooting Incident; identified as 30 year old Michael Ortiz.

Brawley, CA - The Brawley Police Department has announced the arrest of Michael Ortiz, a 30-year-old resident of Brawley, in connection with a shooting that occurred last month. The incident, which is believed to be a targeted attack, left an adult female injured.

On the morning of April 13, 2024, at approximately 8:30 AM, a vehicle pulled up to the front of the Brawley Police Department. The driver exited the car screaming for help while the passenger, an adult female from Brawley, exited the vehicle and yelled that she had been shot. Officers at the scene quickly responded and requested medical aid for the victim, who was subsequently transported to Pioneers Memorial Hospital. She is expected to make a full recovery.

Following a preliminary investigation and the collection of evidence, 30 year old Brawley resident Michael Ortiz was identified as the alleged shooter. On May 10, 2024, at around 5:30 PM, patrol officers spotted Ortiz near 500 Main St. Ortiz attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended on the 600 block of Main St. and arrested, He has since been booked into the Imperial County Sheriff's Office Jail on charges of attempted murder and assault with a firearm. Ortiz is currently being held on $1,000,000 bail.
