Brawley Experiences Swarm of magnitude 3.0 - 4.0 Earthquakes Throughout today; 200+ earthquakes reported.
Brawley, CA – A swarm of earthquakes rattled the city of Brawley and surrounding areas in the early hours of May 18, 2024. The seismic activity began at approximately 1:30 AM and continues throughout the day, with the strongest quake reaching a magnitude of 4.0.
The series of tremors ranged from a minor magnitude of 1.1 to the most significant shake at 4.0, which struck at 8:52 AM. The epicenter of the swarm was located about 3.1 miles away from Brawley, with depths varying from 5.6 miles to 9.0 miles.
Earthquakes seem to be getting bigger as time goes on, from relatively small earthquakes starting at 1:30 AM moving onto bigger earthquakes later on in the day, with a magnitude 4.0 earthquake striking at 8:52 AM. Now earthquakes are ranging from 3.0 to 4.0, and as of 3:30 PM, earthquakes seem to be getting bigger and happening more often, approximately every 10 minutes or so.
Residents of Brawley reported feeling the tremors, with some describing the shaking as mild but noticeable. As of now, no injuries or significant damages have been reported.
